Alaska Vocab Lesson: Artic Entryway

In both of the Bethel houses that I have visited so far, there have been "arctic entryways".  It's basically a mud room where you put your shoes and snowy stuff so that you don't get mud or water all over the house.  Things get very dirty/muddy in Bethel due to the dirt roads.  Right now it's raining, so they are more like muddy roads.

When you go into someone's house you have to take your shoes off as to not track dirt/mud/snow everywhere.  It's done automatically, like in Asian countries like Japan.  Sometimes people have indoor shoes that they put on after they take their muddy shoes off.

In other news, I'm ordering wellington boots online.
